As a photojournalist, my images are made for a very specific purpose:  To document what I see without bias, prejudice or influence by my own thoughts or the thoughts of others. As a commercial photographer the word “image” takes on more than one meaning. Projecting the right image can mean the difference between success and failure. Whether my client is an individual, a family, an organization or a large corporation, my goal is to provide photographs that effectively communicate the desired image, no matter the definition.

All photographers have a passion for what we do.  That is why we do it.  In a world full of people taking pictures, however, it is not enough for a photographer to simply love photography.  My work is about people and my passion for this art is what drives me to connect with them. Everyone has a story, and my camera is the tool that allows me to share those stories, big and small. A story can be as unique and delicate as a snowflake, as distinctive as a smile, or as monumental as the birth of a child. What truly matters is that it is someone’s story, and in that moment it’s the most important thing in their world. New Jersey is among the most diverse places in the country, which is one of the things I love about living and working in this state. I value my role as a “cultural chameleon”, someone who has the ability to get inside a story while maintaining deference and respect for the subject’s beliefs, ideologies and traditions.

Over the last decade digital cameras and smart phones have made photography accessible to more people than ever before in history. It is now fairly easy to take a technically good photograph. I am often asked, “What’s the best camera?” My answer is always the same, “The one in your hands”. What makes the real difference is the person behind the camera. The camera is my tool, just as a hammer is to a carpenter. It is the expertise of the carpenter that crafts the house, not the hammer.  My experience, ability, creativity and insight are the gateways to great photographs.
